To all NON-TESL students (you know who you are) (",)

I know you guys have been checking out my blog and Facebook rite? Busybody seh. hahaha...kidding2...anyways,korang memang rajin ek search my blog and Facebook semata2 nak cari FB Miss Dila. Thumbs up for hardwork. BUT...wouldn't it be better if you guys focus your ever limited time on your studies? GO AND STUDY OR DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO TO FURTHER YOUR STUDIES OVERSEAS! You guys have been given a great opportunity so don't let it go to waste. Make 'her' proud. :)

P.S. Some words of wisdom for you guys - RESPECT is not something one can simply get. In order to get respect, you need to EARN it. Earn respect by giving respect. Take initiative. Don't expect anyone to hand it to you on a silver platter. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, respect others no matter who or how that person is.

(Kata2 diatas tidak ada kaitan dengan yang hidup atau mati. Siapa yang makan cili, terasalah pedasnya. hahaha...)

Peace be upon you all...

Check this out!

Awesomely funny website! Savior of my loneliness!

http://www.savagechickens.com/

Almost alone...

It is now Friday,10.21pm...25 hours and 39 minutes left till Raya...I am still in Shah Alam with Izhar...Just moments ago, I was staring out the window, looking at a place where just a few days ago, filled with 'life'. It's missing now...Empty parking spaces, silence except for a few passing cars and the sounds of exploding fireworks from a distance...

At this very moment, I am...alone...I know I'll be heading home tomorrow but for now, even with my housemate is in the room next to mine, the feeling of loneliness has found its way into me...It's been a long time since I felt this way. Not a very good feeling I might add...Even worse when phone shuffled to play the song The Scientist by Coldplay...great song, not so great timing...

Wish 'you' were here...

Rise of Epiphany - A night in The Wonderer's life

Day/Date: Thursday / 17th September 2009
Time : Between 2am to 8am
Mood : Not so sure...

My main activity during this period of this wee morning hours was...well...playing cards with my friends...and playing my guitar for a while...On the way to class, I noticed that during that time, I did absolutely no work that is related to my life as a Part 8 TESL student. I did not work my butt off in composing assignments, study for test or even my AE.

What I'm trying to say is that it has been a while since I did something recreational (well, sort of...) and fun due to all the work that have been 'bestowed' under my responsibility to complete.

Usually, I would be in front of my laptop or in my office (mattress actually) going through my notes of to do list to make sure everything that needs to be done will be done in time. Last night was really a breathe of fresh air for me and allowed me to put me my feet up because all the time that was spent on my work alone is turning me into a bitter, anti social human being.

It also made me realized that a night away from work is crucial in preventing myself from being burnt out or the bringer of negative and unwelcomed aura to others around me. Someone very close to me was effected badly due to the state that I was in at the time because she was always around. Although she tried her best to look at the bright side,I being the great spreader of negativity, managed to bring her hopes down and even sparked a few 'damaging flames'.

In short, last night of inactiveness made me realized that I can be better in handling the situation in a proper manner because if no actions are taken to deal with this, unwanted circumstances will find its way into my life and causing more pain and heartache. No more, not now,not ever...

Brand new look...??

Brand new look! Same great taste! Just wanted to join the crowd since everyone's doing it. Latest case is A&W. All of this kinda makes me think...If taste (contents) is what people or 'consumers' say they focus on, then is there need for superficial changes if it is going to stay the same? This goes out to everyone, something we hear everyday but always forget. DO NOT judge something based on its outer appearance...Sounds familiar? Yup,but a lot of people keep forgetting bout this...

In other words, what matters the most is the actions or impact one brings, not the appearance...That is what I'm trying to point out through my blog. Superficial change, not important. Words getting through to the public,VERY important (if can be done but not from someone as insignificant as me) More followers/readers? Still the same. Owh well,we're still new. Pull in customers with looks, make them come back for more of what we can serve! (Waving flag that says "Eat at Sep's! An AWESOME experience for the whole family!")

Selamat Hari Raya...(",)

As we all know, raya is so close right now we can actually see it coming towards us from the distance. A day we all longed for after a month of fasting (except for a few hiccups but will be replaced ASAP. eheheh...). A day of forgiveness, gathering of loved ones and awesome food EVERYWHERE! Thank God for elastic waistbands on our raya pants eh? hahaha...anyways,my family will be gather again and hopefully, this year's raya will be a happy one for me. InsyaAllah...I'm actually looking forward to raya because my family will finally 'berhimpun' after 2 long years. It may not seem that long but considering the fact that everyone could come home whenever they want to because of the short distance between where each of us are currently 'stationed' and H.O.M.E. (Home of My Evils) Don't ask...anywho, just want to wish everyone that I know a Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir Batin (tertakluk kepada ahli keluarga sahaja). Be safe on your journeys to and from your hometowns...

NOTE:
1. Get your car serviced before heading home.
2. Check whether your public transportation of choice's tickets are VALID. Beware of 'Ulat Tiket'. They're everywhere...
3. Get as many kuih raya as u can to bring back to Shah Alam because you'll be needing brain food for the completion of your thesis. (munch3!)

P.S. Ask for forgiveness, not duit raya. Visit those who have moved on to the next world because only God knows how much we want them to be with us during Raya. We all have someone we loved and missed. All we can do is pray. InsyaAllah,we'll be blessed by the Lord. (I'll come and visit u mom...)

To conclude,SELAMAT HARI RAYA TO ALL MY FRIENDS,FAMILY,LECTURERS,KNOWN ASSOCIATES AND ANYONE WHO I KNOW!!! I pray for forgiveness from each and everyone of you. Assalamualaikum and good day to all! (",)

Eat at Sep's...? So original one...

D'OH! (Simpson,1989). My God what was I thinking when I decided to name my blog 'Eat at Sep's'?? Of all the things I could decide on, I chose the lamest of the lamest...I need to change the name...very uncool...

voice in head : hey wait a minute,do your AE! NOW!

AE = TIME = NOT ENOUGH OF IT (NOW)

I am currently suffering from procrastinatious malasis...in general term, im freakin' lazy! What is wrong with me?? The final submission for the Academic Exercise is coming close I can smell it...and my progress is not even halfway! It's true how the saying goes by this great philosopher, which goes "Procrastination kills" (Adilah, 2008). It's like every time I sit in front of this God forsaken laptop or PC, nothing comes to mind and when that's the case, nothing will be produced by these fingers of mine...INSTEAD, in my head, I am able to produce this post on my blog! That's it! DO YOUR THESIS SEP...REMEMBER YOUR TARGET...I hereby announce that I WILL graduate this semester if God willing...Pray for the best, work like my life depends on me finishing my AE...InsyaAllah...Pray for me readers of my insignificant blog...Peace be upon you...

TASK 3 - WWW LESSON PLAN (Worksheet)

This is my worksheet for the lesson's in class activity that is implemented into my WWW lesson plan. The worksheet can also be used as the worksheet for the follow up activity if the students wish to do so.

TASK 3 - WWW LESSON PLAN

Due to the fact that I love to watch cooking shows on television (although I have no talent in cooking or even cook to save my life), I have chosen Jamie Oliver's website because of his superb skills in cooking cuisines, simple all the way to complicated dishes easily with no hassle. The recipes and dishes that are available in his website are explained in detail and I personally think that students will enjoy this lesson and produce excellent work and cooperation.

Yours truly,

Sep Irran bin Halid

rain...

Rain...cold morning...not a great time to edit assignments...but that's just another day for students...In this situation, what is the best thing that we can do to that can benefit us? Do I choose to sleep until noon and procrastinate more? Diverting further away from all my work? Or do I stay in front of this computer, hoping that all my work will be done by my fingers and not my mind? That would be heaven...BUT...We're not in it now, are we? So, suck it up because this is life...Delay is inevitable, procrastination is almost certain...but at the end of the day, what needs to be done will get done...*sigh* (heading to bed.......)

Title : Opportunities in Technology-enhanced Language Learning (TELL) Classroom Environments

Journal - volume: Teaching English with Technology
October 2004,Vol 4, Issue 4
http://www.iatefl.org.pl/call/j_article19.htm

Author's name: Hee-Jung Jung, Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA

Article Review

This research was done with the aims of exploring and improving the students' level of proficiency in language learning with classrooms that are equipped with the proper technology and equipment. The methodology that have been implemented in getting The methods that they have used in order to obtain the findings are through interviews, observation and collection of documents from students in two different technology enhanced language learning (TELL) environments or surroundings. They have done so for two months. The interviews were done after each class with both students and teachers. This research was done in one English classroom in two different schools in South Korea. Both classes are 5th and 8th grade EFL classrooms. The amount of students that were involved in this study are 22 boys and 20 girls. Their first language is of course Korean and most of them are able to speak English almost like the natives even though they have just started to learn the language in the particular classroom. The subjects have been exposed to quite an amount of technology in their classrooms. For example, their classrooms are equipped with a networked computer, a scanner, printer, camcorder, overhead projector, 45-inch television, and so on. There are even computer monitors on each of the students' tables. This is quite impressive considering that every classroom in those particular schools are equipped with same things. Even the teachers implement software and the Internet with their daily teachings and lessons to the students. Even their MOE have developed software for each grade and the teachers are required to use them in the classrooms. The 8th grade students focused more on all four language skills and the amount of students are a bit less compared to the 5th graders. Based on their findings from their observations and interviews, the researchers have discovered eight different conditions that can be seen in both TELL classrooms. The first condition is the students have opportunities to interact and negotiate meaning. The second condition is the students do interact and utilize the target language with native speakers of the language. The third condition is the learners are involved in conditions where they can use the target language.
The fourth is learners are exposed and encouraged to produce varied and creative language. The fifth is learners have ample time and feedback. The sixth is the learners are guided to attend mindfully to the learning process. The seventh is learners work in an atmosphere with an ideal stress/anxiety level and finally the last condition is the learners' autonomy is supported.

In my opinion, I think that this research is interesting because of the results or conditions that were discovered by the researchers when they observed the two classrooms. With the use of technology in the classroom, students are more interested and thus, the process of teaching and learning is maximized further. Even the transfer of knowledge from the teachers to students are done easily and very well. With these equipments at hand, the process of teaching and learning are greatly improved when both are integrated together. This research was very well conducted with all the necessary information included if by any chance the readers have any doubts or misunderstanding on the given topic of the study. Even I had a hard time in trying to prove the study have defaults even though I am not an expert. In my opinion, the information that were stated in this journal is complete if not, sufficient for proper referencing. From where I stand now, this research showed to us that technology does help in teaching. In this case, the teaching of language is done tremendously well. From what I see, these technologies that are made available in each classroom is the key. The possibilities of students' interest levels rising and making them eager to learn is potentially beneficial if it was to be done in our own country's school context. Based on my personal experience during my practicum, I too noticed that the students were more eager to learn when I used any type or form of technology in my class. If the technologies and equipments are made available in our schools, I have no doubt that our education system will be greatly improved just like the students in South Korea. Education is the key of the future and with knowledge, we will prevail and prosper.

NELSON MANDELA

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1918. His father was Chief Henry Mandela of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela himself was educated at University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand and qualified in law in 1942. He joined the African National Congress in 1944 and was engaged in resistance against the ruling National Party's apartheid policies after 1948. He went on trial for treason in 1956-1961 and was acquitted in 1961.After the banning of the ANC in 1960, Nelson Mandela argued for the setting up of a military wing within the ANC. In June 1961, the ANC executive considered his proposal on the use of violent tactics and agreed that those members who wished to involve themselves in Mandela's campaign would not be stopped from doing so by the ANC. This led to the formation of Umkhonto we Sizwe. Mandela was arrested in 1962 and sentenced to five years' imprisonment with hard labour. In 1963, when many fellow leaders of the ANC and the Umkhonto we Sizwe were arrested, Mandela was brought to stand trial with them for plotting to overthrow the government by violence. His statement from the dock received considerable international publicity. On June 12, 1964, eight of the accused, including Mandela, were sentenced to life imprisonment. From 1964 to 1982, he was incarcerated at Robben Island Prison, off Cape Town; thereafter, he was at Pollsmoor Prison, nearby on the mainland.During his years in prison, Nelson Mandela's reputation grew steadily. He was widely accepted as the most significant black leader in South Africa and became a potent symbol of resistance as the anti-apartheid movement gathered strength. He consistently refused to compromise his political position to obtain his freedom.
Nelson Mandela was released on February 11, 1990. After his release, he plunged himself wholeheartedly into his life's work, striving to attain the goals he and others had set out almost four decades earlier. In 1991, at the first national conference of the ANC held inside South Africa after the organization had been banned in 1960, Mandela was elected President of the ANC while his lifelong friend and colleague, Oliver Tambo, became the organisation's National Chairperson.

Walaowei...

Name : Sep Irran bin Halid

Age: 22

Life's Purpose: To live

Never thought I would join the blogging world but I guess I would have to join it sooner or later in this fast-developing world we call our 'home'...First CALL class and we're required to write a bit about ourselves tech-wise...errr...

There are a few softwares that I am familiar with that i have come to accpet and utilize in my life at the moment. The software that I currently use on a regular basis is Guitar Pro 5.0. I use this software to learn songs on the guitar or to find sounds from other available musical instruments.

There are a few other softwares that i use like Microsoft Office, Garena (I think it's a software...), Limewire (past), BitComet and...That's it I guess...

Hardware wise, I know a bit here and there about this thingamajig we call a computer. Basically, I can disassemble and reassemble a few parts of the PC (laptop, out of the question). Nothing much here folks...

I, like many other people who have too much free time, often engage in online community websites like Myspace and Facebook. Basically, I just use them to keep myself updated with my friends because almost all of them have either a Myspace or Facebook account or both...

There was no chance of me in using the powers of the computer during my practicum session due to the fact that my school was lacking in the technology division. I haven't participated in any learning through online because I'm usually distracted by other wonderful distractions that are vastly available on the Net...

Basically, that's who I am. If you want to know more, please do come and eat at Sep's! (",)
